Musui Art Foundation (MAF) is a nonprofit foundation that supports creative practice as well as research and documentation in the arts. It specifically aims to create a supportive framework for artists in the peripheries of our country. Its vision is to go beyond urban centres and engage with the margins, with communities and practitioners who do not have access to institutional support.

In order to achieve this, the foundation works with artists and researchers by providing residencies and scholarships, organising seminars and talks curating travelling exhibitions, and publishing art-related books. The foundation works with visionaries and young minds on the frontline of artistic change worldwide and believes in lively engagement with contemporary cultural thought.

Tokaroun, inaugurated in 2024, is Musui Art Foundation’s new nonprofit space in Santiniketan for sharing and expanding the foundation’s work in the arts.

Tokaroun’s galleries will share MAF's archives, documentation, and publications with interested viewers and researchers on a rotating basis. It will also be a space for performances, lectures, discussions, film shows and more.

In its inaugural exhibition, the three galleries at Tokaroun are showing high quality reproductions of the photographs of several great masters from Santiniketan: Ramkinkar Baij, Benodebehari Mukherjee, Somnath Hore, Sarbari Roy Chowdhury, and a collection of images from the exhibition ‘A 100 Years of Kala Bhavana’. A gallery is devoted to photographs of KG Subramanyan in honour of his birth centenary in 2024. You will also find letters written by Satyajit Ray (with translations), and photographs by Prabuddha Dasgupta and Jyotish Chakravarty.

These exhibits either belong to Musui Art Foundation or are sourced from archives related to the publications and exhibitions the foundation has been involved in.

Tokaroun’s exhibits will be on view by appointment only.
